So... you just bought a new camera, like I did, what now? You gotta stretch and try stuff you couldn't do with your old camera, re-try things you failed at. Do some of the same things and learn how this camera works differently. Experiment! One of the first things I did was play with some of my old manual focus lenses, as the field of view is different on full frame vs crop sensor what worked before is different now. Where to start? I did a little messing about with various lenses but really nothing remarkable. Then I decided to be a little more organized and started with "the Standard" 50mm f1.4 I took a cold January day and went to the Salt Lake Cemetery to see if I could get some juice.
Side note: Everyone gets in a creative funk, I was in a big one, busy with work and life, the universe, EVERYTHING! I hoped that just trying something different would help, it did a bit. It also helped me realize that this old lens is a good one as well as that F1.4 gives you a very thin depth of field (area of the image that it in focus, see here for more in depth discussion: https://photographylife.com/what-is-depth-of-field )
Now to be completely forthright I did mess around with other lenses before this, but I just felt like writing about this first. It was a bit of fun to do something different. The other stuff was Temples and Autumn Leaves, which I will cover in a later post.
